Bylaw
Chapter 14 of the Timaru Consolidated Bylaw 2013 outlines local regulations for the management of solid waste in the Timaru District. There are a lot of specific regulations covering the kerbside collection. Commercial waste is closely addressed in the bylaws as Council does not provide a commercial waste service. The kerbside collection service is limited to the provision of two sets of bins per property. Waste quantities exceeding this capacity must be disposed of commercially.
The Bylaw outlines Council responsibilities for protection of public health from waste management services, the protection of landfill staff and the overall environment. There are also requirements to extend the life of the landfill, and so prohibited and banned materials are also listed in the bylaw.
Plan
The Waste Management and Minimisation Plan outlines the vision, goals and direction for our waste services over the next 6-10 years.
