Bin Placement
- Put out two bins each week: your green bin and either the red or yellow bin, on yellow bin week you can put out your blue glass bin as well. See the South Zone calendar or the North Zone calendar for red and yellow bin schedules.
- 80kg maximum weight.
- Bins need to be put out before 6am on collection day
- Put bins close to the kerb and at least 0.5 metres apart.
- Please put the smallest bin first.
- Handles must face the pavement.
- Bins should be unobstructed by vehicles, trees or power poles.
- Close lids.
- If you have problems with positioning your bin on the kerbside, live in units or flats with space constraints, or have other special circumstances, please contact the Council on (03) 687 7200.
- Your bin is allocated to your property and must stay with the property even if you shift.

Missed, stolen or damaged bins
For bins that are missed by the collection truck, damaged (e.g. split side or broken handles), missing or stolen, please contact the Council on (03) 687 7200. You will be required to pay costs only if the bin is damaged due to negligence.

Handy hints
- Squash boxes to make more room in your recycling bin.
- Ensure your recycling is clean! Humans have to sort it.
- Put hot ash in a metal can away from buildings for seven days before putting in the red bin.
- Pay attention to weight - 80kg maximum
