Timaru’s consultation document “Are We There Yet?” has been judged the best of the 2015 LTP consultation documents at the Society of Local Government Managers (SOLGM) Community Plan Conference. Timaru’s Consultation Document (CD) was chosen from amongst 44 entries – that ranged in size from Christchurch City down to Kawerau District.
“There were some great CDs out there” Sector Improvement Manager Raymond Horan says “our panel of five judges considered Are We There Yet? best demonstrated the qualities of an effective CD”.
“A CD should present the key issues and choices to the community with enough information on costs and consequences to allow for informed submissions” Raymond says “Timaru presented five key issues, the options and the implications of the choice in a meaningful way”.
Mayor Damon Odey believes the win is down to everyone’s commitment to getting the document right, understanding the legislation and concentrating on the issues that the District is facing. The Councillor’s took ownership of these issues and wanted to engage with the community.
Mayor Odey said it was a huge team effort for both Councillors and staff and everyone involved is to be congratulated.
