Welcome to the Penguin Camera Project - Keeping an Eye on the Little Blue Penguin!
Nestled amidst the golden sands of Caroline Bay lies Timaru, a coastal gem of New Zealand. Here, bustling cafes, lush gardens, and pristine beaches converge to create a unique seaside experience. However, amidst this beauty lies a rare and cherished resident - the Little Blue Penguin!
Embark on a fascinating journey as we unveil the Penguin Camera Project along the picturesque Marine Parade at Caroline Bay in Timaru. Initially commenced in 2019, this project aims to provide an intimate glimpse into the daily lives of the Little Blue Penguins.
In collaboration with Allied Alarms, PrimePort Timaru, and the Timaru District Council, the Timaru Suburban Lions have installed a camera offering various captivating views of the penguins' journey. From their ventures in the sea to their cozy nests, our camera views’ will provide an immersive experience for all nature enthusiasts.
Please note that these cameras may require occasional adjustments, and the Little Blue Penguins are typically visible during certain seasons, especially at dusk and dawn. We kindly ask visitors to be considerate of others who share a passion for observing the penguins' journey.
Join us in celebrating the wonder of nature and the importance of conservation efforts. Whether you're a local enthusiast or a curious traveller, we invite you to witness the magic of the Little Blue Penguins through the lens of the Timaru Penguin Camera Project.
