Tomas Walsh

Born on 1 March 1992 in the Timaru District, Tom is a New Zealand athlete who competes mainly in the shot put.
He is the current national record holder in both outdoor and indoor events.


His personal best of 22.00 m (72 foot 2 inches) set in a Diamond League meet in Paris on 27 August 2016, is also an Oceania record.

Walsh has progressed through numerous New Zealand representations including:
2009 World Youth Championships in Brixen, Italy where he placed 6th in shot put
2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada
2014 World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland where he won Bronze
2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland where he won Silver
2015 World Championships in Beijing, China where he placed 4th in shot put
2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon where he won Gold
2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he won Silver

Tom is currently coached by Dale Stevenson in Christchurch. His club is still South Canterbury Amateur Athletics Club.
