- Won a lucrative recording contract and his international concert career was under way

- Performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
- Made numerous appearances with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra

- Won the Auckland Star Piano Concerto Competition 1969
- Third in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 1973
- Fourth in the Leeds Piano Competition 1974
- Turnovsky Prize for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts 1989
