Interment
Burials and ashes services can be held Monday to Saturday 9.00am to 4.00pm
Occasionally a burial service is needed outside of the above hours. Your funeral director or funeral arranger would need to apply to the Council for required time but it will depend on whether the interment contractor is available. Additional charges apply.
Purchasing a plot
Please note that pre-purchasing of burial plots is suspended until further notice.
In many cemeteries it is possible to purchase burial rights for a specific cemetery plot prior to a person's death.
Burial rights give permission to be interred in a plot however you do not get ownership of the land.
Cremations
The Council does not operate a crematorium. There is however a private facility - the South Canterbury Crematorium at 410 Beaconsfield Road, Timaru. Phone 03 684 3251
