Road Ahead - 3/11/23

03 Nov 2023

#INFRASTRUCTURE MATTERS

Summer is a busy time for our roading crews. Here’s some of the major things on the road ahead next week.

Park Lane Resurfacing + Roundabout Installation Update

Work has happened between Wai-iti Road down to just past Lysaght Road.

The crew are using a process that enables access to properties almost all the time during construction. They haven’t had too many soft spots or issues so far, so progress is going well.

They will be continuing to build the road down to the June St intersection this week.

Next week the digger crews will be working on the intersection, and this will cause a bit more disruption to traffic as the public may not be able to drive through at times.

At the same time the construction of the top layer will continue closer to Wai-iti Road. All in all it’s going well with few issues.

First Step in Coastal Connection Project (permanent)(connecting Caroline Bay and CBD)

This is the first step in the permanent installation of our Coastal Connections project, linking Caroline Bay to the CBD. Fulton Hogan will begin pouring the new kerb line next week for the replacement of the existing kerb & channel on Ritchie Street, this kerb & channel will be poured on a new alignment to create a 3.0m width shared pathway. Once the new kerb and channel is finished the existing one can be removed.

South Street Bridge Replacement

General Update:

  • Work is progressing well, contractor is on programme.
  • The bridge itself is now substantially complete, subcontractors now starting on approach and civil works, including additional watermain extension for drainage & water.

KiwiRail Protection will no longer be required as of end of day Friday November 3rd.
