#CULTURE + LIFESTYLE
At the epicentre of our communities are Libraries, a place people can access free resources, connect with people, and provide a service for those who cannot make it in.
Timaru District Libraries host a Tuesday social group for people living with disabilities come together to connect, and take part in activities like arts and crafts, board games, and quizzes.
This Christmas they made some Christmas themed decorations for the Timaru Library housebound service.
“The Tuesday social group meets in the Timaru Library Community Room, they enjoy crafting, playing board games and getting out and about on excursions around the district, this year they visited the art gallery, museum, new playground the spend time picking up rubbish on Caroline Bay for Seaweek ,” Libraries Manager Michael Priest said.
“Every year the group get excited when our Outreach Librarian Ingrid gets them to make Christmas Decorations for the housebound borrowers.
“This year colouring in reindeer, elves and Santa’s and picking the right tinsel hanger brought a lot a joy for the group, with one member commenting that taking part made them feel like an important part of the community, and we know the receivers will be grateful for these gifts to brighten their home.”
The Housebound service is for people in our community who have difficulty getting to the Library. Library staff provide a free, regular delivery service direct to their doors.
