Solid Waste Fees and Charges

Timaru District Council charges are based on weight, and may vary from year to year. Waste disposal charges are 100% user pays, and are set by Council on an annual basis.

A more equitable system of charging light vehicles by weight was introduced in 2010, with the implementation of single weighbridges at the Temuka and Geraldine transfer stations. A second weighbridge at the Redruth site was installed to enable vehicles to weigh in and out.

Transfer Station Hours and Locations

Waste disposal facilities are provided in Geraldine, Pleasant Point, Temuka and Timaru. Drop off areas for recycling, reusable items, green waste, cleanfill, scrap metals, hazardous materials and waste disposal are provided at each transfer station.

Kerbside Collection Information

The Council operates a three-bin kerbside collection service throughout urban and some rural areas of the Timaru District. This is currently contracted to Transpacific Industries Ltd, who is responsible for emptying the bins and processing the contents. The bins belong to the Timaru District Council and should remain with the property concerned.

Just two bins should be put out weekly: your green bin, and either the red or yellow bin.

Bins should be out for collection the night before, or by 6am on the day bins are collected in your area.
