CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION 2013

Always wanted to be a writer?  Now's your chance to show us what you can do – we're looking for the best short-stories written by kids and teens in South Canterbury.  Give it a go!

 The competition is open to children and teens that live in, or attend school in the South Canterbury region, and are in Years 1 - 13, or if home-educated, are 5 - 18 years old.  There are five categories: Years 1 - 3, Years 4 - 6, Years 7 - 8, Years 9 -10 and Years 11 - 13.

Click here to download the entry form and here for background info and terms and conditions.  The Ursula Moray Williams Cup will be awarded for best overall story in Years 1- 8 categories, and book vouchers will be presented to winners and runners-up in each category.

Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday 31 July 2013.

Get Well Bags

If your child is sick or housebound phone us and we will select a Get Well Bag for you to call in and collect. 

These contain a selection of age-appropriate high interest books, talking books, puzzles, CDs, DVDs and other diversions from our collections.  Phone Sue on 6877480 to arrange.

Blast off to the library for books about quantum leaps, big bangs, telescopes, black holes, space junk, quasars, pulsars, nebulae, space travel and more!

Yes, it is rocket science!

Check out our books or online databases for all the latest astronomy information.

Try the South Canterbury Museum too for all sorts of cool astronomy activities!

 

Storytimes

These sessions, geared to preschoolers ages 2 and upwards, begin to introduce specific pre- and early literacy skills and are the beginnings of a lifelong love of literature

Storytime at Timaru Children's Library every Friday 11.30am – 12 noon

A special half-hour of book-related fun with simple stories, rhymes, bubbles, balloons, stick games or songs for young children with an accompanying caregiver. 

Pre-school Storytime at Temuka Library fortnightly Wednesdays at 10.30am during term time.
